Bram VermeulenSketches of Holland
Between the fall of 2003 and the summer of 2004, a film assigned by the municipality of Wester-Koggenland was produced. The filmed portrait of the rural area with that name and - first and foremost - of its inhabitants, was hosted by Bram Vermeulen. This versatile writer, musician and sportsman had achieved a legendary status already before his tragic death, just before the final cut of the film was released.

In the film, Vermeulen and other 'Wester-Koggenlanders' tell about their work, their leisure activities as well as their favourite locations. Combined, their testimonies provide a multi-faceted view of the community.

On May 6th, 1997 the brand new facilities of ASTRON (Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy) were officially put into use by Her Royal Highness queen Beatrix of the Netherlands. She did this, by revealing an artist's impression (provided by Pal AV) of the future SKA-project.
On a worldwide scale ASTRON, which controls the large radio telescope at Westerbork, is the prime motivating force behind the realization of such a Square Kilometre Array interferometer. It involves linking 32 huge antennae. Each of the antennae will be approximately 300 metres in diameter and consists of many separate elements. These elements will most likely be immobile, but through electronic means it is nevertheless possible to direct such an antenna at specific areas and objects in deep space.

PJOTR VILLICKY VASPRASJAITSE DAMOI
Meaning: "Peter is coming home" in the Russian language. For the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pal AV created a short documentary with a Russian narrative. It showed how a bronze statue, depicting tzar Peter the Great, was meticulously copied. The likeness, in itself already a copy of a Russian original, had been a gift from the state of Russia to the Dutch city of Zaandam, where the Russian monarch was taught the (then) latest ship building techniques. During the Great Revolution, the original statue - that portrays a ship-building tzar - was destroyed. In the year in which the founding of the Russian navy (300 years ago) by the young tzar was commemorated - the Netherlands therefore handed over another exact copy to the young Russian democracy. In Petersburg, the Dutch crown prince Willem-Alexander handed over both statue and film.

The Zaans Museum, situated near the famous historical township of the Zaanse Schans, entrusted Pal AV with realizing the live broadcast of the festive opening of the museum. The hundreds of invited guests - devided over the two decks of the moored river boat 'the Prince of Orange' - witnessed the actual opening by way of closed circuit television. The live report followed Home Secretary Bram Peper - accompanied by his wife Neelie Smit, mayor Ruud Vreeman and provincial governor Jos van Kemenade - during their walk from the ship to the main entrance of the museum.

PAL teamBecause the use of wireless transmitters turned out to be undesirable due to local circumstances, sound and images were carried from the mobile camera to the directing unit near the ship, by way of a cable connection which was over four hundred metres long. Keeping the sound and video cables out of harms way and winding them up and down, was done by three of the six mobile crew members, while a second crew took care of a direct video link between the two decks of the river boat.
